History
The University of the Federal District (UDF) was established on December 4, 1950. The University’s name changed several times due to political developments. After the Federal District was relocated to Brasilia in 1961, it was renamed Guanabara State University (UEG). The institution gained its current name only in 1975 when the State of Guanabara combined with the former State of Rio de Janeiro to establish the new State of Rio de Janeiro.
The first four schools of the University were the Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Economic Sciences, the Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Law, the La-Fayette Institute’s Faculty of Philosophy, and the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
Some schools (for example, the Faculty of Law, founded in 1935) are older than the University and were merged when the institution was founded.
Education
The State University of (Associacao Formandos Uerj Medicina 2018.1 Rio De Janeiro) Geophysical Society Student Chapter was created on January 30, 2015, by students from the State University of Rio de Janeiro’s geology course, with Gabriela Salomo serving as the inaugural president.
The chapter’s role is to provide geology, geophysics, and other geoscience students with the knowledge they need to enter the market after their academic careers. The UERJ Geophysical Society promotes lectures with specialized professionals, workshops, short courses, and technical visits, offers material for research and studies, encourages chats with employees of large corporations, and strengthens ties between the University and the company to achieve its goals.
This is done so that students can understand their market position and firms can understand the future experts available.
More than 1,000 works in many disciplines of knowledge and some unique artifacts, papers, iconography, and university archives are available. UERJ provides training scheme scholarships, including those for scientific and teacher training, to supplement the learning process.
